Thoughts on Mindful Self-Compassion

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is not a therapeutic program, where you come along and then leave all sorted. It is in no means such a quick fix. I would truly be the busiest person in the world if it was.

The wonderful reality is that MSC is a way of being in the world, a way that is kind, mindful and compassionate. I often think of MSC as an ongoing way of creating balance, the balance we are always needing of wisdom (mindfulness) and compassion (loving connected presence).

With all this in mind - it naturally evolved that after the MSC program is finished there needed to be a place for ongoing practice, growth and connection. The practice sessions held regularly at The Heart's Nest at Henley became this place. I will post the discussion notes for each of the sessions up on this page. So we can all stay connected.

In kindness,

Tina

Session Details - October, 2017. We started with a mindfulness practice followed by the heart practice of Compassion for self and others. Our discussion explored the findings of Brené Brown around shame reslience and the key role MSC can play in building this.

Session Details - May 1st, 2017. We started with the river mindfulness meditation, followed by a compassion with equanimity practice. The discussion centred around how we find balance in amongst our tough times, like the wings of this bird - finding our way to a balance of wisdom and compassion.

Session Details - March 27th. Exploring why it is so common to have blocks and/or fears regarding self-compassion and how these may be linked to harsh inner criticism and to trouble receiving from others. We then focused on the tools from MSC Paul Gilbert's Compassion Focused Therapy to slowly begin to melt the barriers and let compassion flow.

Session Details - February 6th and 23rd - Exploring the science behind a lot of the MSC practices, the ways in which they are activating the body's calming / soothing system. How combined with mindfulness these practices assist to create greater balance and well-being.
